I am attending one of those IT cram session schools and
I have the option of taking one of four MCP core tests:
active directory
w2k server
w2k pro
infastucture
I am gearing for a career in computer repair and was wondering which one of these would be most appropriate
for me. I already recieved the A+ and will also be Net+.

thank you

Just repair? I'd say Win2k Pro, since it's a workstation OS. The others are all for network administration, unless of course you want to do that too. Odds are you won't work much w/Win2k Server as a repair man, just the workstation version. Good luck. Darrell Mozingo

I suggest taking them all if you can. The more get out of the way now while you are in class for them the better for your career in the future. Regardless of where you are employed now they can still help you. An MCSE looks better thean an MCP. James Collins

If you mean that the class includes the cost of one test, then I'd take the 70-210, (The pro test). Although it doesn't have anything to do with PC repair (see the CompTIA A+ certification).

But James is right... take as many of the tests as you can. CJ

Well considering the A+ OS technologies exam deals with WIN2k Pro troubleshooting and the 70-210 exam is based on the latter then do it.

An earlier post replied that 70-210 has nothing do to with PC repair. When you disable a device in device manager or disable a driver from the recovery console in order to fix a computer related problem this is troubleshooting and PC repair is it not?

Go for either 215 or 210 or both if you can. If you feel that you want to do it one at a time go for 210 it's straight forward and you will have no problems. Good luck whichever one you take, i'm sure you will pass. MCP / MCSE Windows 2000

Just to clear up my point.

70-210 will not tell you how to troubleshoot conflicting COM ports, troubleshooting in the system bios, replacing motherboards, etc.

I would suggest taking two tests, one on Windows 2000 Pro (70-210) and one on Windows XP Pro (70-270)

Also take some time to learn Windows XP Home and the diffrences between Windows 95, 98, and NT.

Now, if you really want to get into a niche, learn to repair a MAC.

Taking the 70-215 and on tests is great, and will help you in the long run, but I'd focus on your current needs now and take a little time to get the rest of the tests, if you so desire (perhaps a year or two... don't wait to long... you start to forget things :)
