I Have a Norstar 3x8 with an MCK1000 running a remote phone at another location. The remote phone keeps losing connection. The IP address has not changed, Which is what typically happened in the past. When the cust reboots the main MCK the phone connects and stays up for anywhere from an hour to 3 hours and then it dropps again.

Any Ideas?

Thanks,

Eric

Heh heh...no surprise there. Don't think I've seen an MCK unit yet that didn't do that once in a while. Chances are it's the link between your two points that's failing although it is certainly possible that you have a bad MCK unit.

Or consider basic VOIP priciples- I assume the sites have static, public IP's. Are the 2 sites using the same internet provider? If not, are they using the same backbone provider? You can try a ping to the other site to check latency.

Other question- is all the equipment in question on a UPS?

The Gateway address is static. There are No UPS's, and I can ping the IP.

Thanks,

Eric

You may want to check the logs in both the MCK and the DSU feeding it......it may be a DS1 issue. For data, it isn't that critical; TCP retransmits lost packets automatically, voice is far more sensative. There are a lot of things it could be, rule out the easy stuff first.

I need to verify that you are refering to the MCK 1000. reason I am concerned is that the 1000 uses dial up not IP to connect between the two locations and as such it can end up in trouble from phone noise, the tones used for call waiting etc. etc.

the mck at the remote end can connect to a PC but this is limited to the speed of the modem internal to the MCK1000. with that in mind you can run some ping tests 1000 times and see how much ip loss you see to give you a rough idea of thruput over the phone line.
