MCDST/A+ overlap?

I need to study for the A+ software exam (I just passed the hardware exam using the Examcram study guide but I am sorry I bought it as it is poorly written). I have purchased the MCDST study guide from Charles River and wonder if the OS portion of the MCDST covers all of the A+ OS objectives. I plan to pass the MCDST next. Has anybody passed both and can comment? Thanks.

I shouldn't really comment as I've done neither the A+ or MCDST exams, I have done the Security+ and MCSE though. If the formats are similar then I'd say you'd have to study for them differently.

Microsoft exams usually involve long scenario based questions whereas the CompTIA stuff seems very short straight fact tests (of questionable relevance). The security+ exam didn't test my knowledge of security, it tested my ability to remember a load of facts (encryption key lengths and names, port numbers etc, even what type of fire extinguisher was suitable for different fire types...).

I passed both but can't really comment as I got the MCDST last year but got my A+ several years ago. There is no "OS portion" of the MCDST really, it's all about Windows XP. The A+ is a bit more generalized as I remember and doesn't go much into specifics of any particular OS (though again it's been years so I could be wrong). Study for each exam separately and don't assume passing the MCDST exams will prepare you for the A+ OS portion.

I shouldn't really comment, since I've just only done MSDST in Nov. I haven't done A+. but I do have done ages of A+ work.
from my personal view, A+ is sort of a prerequist for 270,271,272; since many of my evening classmates were from a previous A+ class.

cheers
