HI,
I am programmer with 7 years of IT Experience.I was wondering to give MCDBA certifcation..but wanted to hear from all of you about its pros..if any?

What publications, authors books are good for preperation and how much time should I give to prepare for each exam..I guess there are 4 exams alltogether !

Well... no certification is going to hurt, but the value of the cert really comes down to you.

For example, if you go out and get the cert because it is part of learning the technology, or you just want to demonstrate that you have knowledge of MS SQL server and Windows Networking, then you will probably find a good deal of value in getting the MCDBA.

If your getting the MCDBA to stick it on your resume and expect it to get you a job, then your probably not going to get the value you want out of it :)

Sybex makes some very excelent books (although I recommend reviewing what people say about the specific books on BN.com and Amazon.com before buying them (as 1 or 2 are not as good as the others...)

Also, if your main intrest is programing, you might find MS' programing certs to be of more value than the DB cert, as it is really more focused on a DB Administrators position than a programmer.

Thanks for the reply Charlie !

Are the books by : Microsoft Corporation (Author) good...they are the ones that are popping out first in Amazon.com?

Sybex and Microsoft are both good.
I would recommend reading both starting with Sybex for the theory and then the other for the correctness in how MS want the exam questions answered.
You will also need quite a strong network/Active directory foundation as access to databases is usually controlled by windows group membership.

Hands on practice will be *really useful* to make the cert helpful in your quest for a DBA role...
