Hi - I am starting my journey into becoming certified. I am excited but a little nervous since I am not certain what to expect yet. I decided to start with exam 70-229 & have a target date to take the test by 10/15/04.

Any information & links about the exam/tests that you could share would be appreciated. - Especially any books that you can recommend would be great. There are so many books out there - not certain which would be best for exam 70-229. Probably a little from all!

Thanks everyone!

Angela

Transcender.....

if you want MCDBA you need 228, 216 and 215 too...

get the transcender tests (try the electric donkey, cheaper fun 2b had :) if budget tight like me...)

215 in not too hard, 228 quite a bit harder...
216 not yet tried for (chicken:) )
good luck

You can also do 290 and 293 (in addition to 228 and 229). 290 was a piece of cake. I'm reading the book on 293 now. Doesn't seam that it will be all that hard.

290 is the Windows 2003 version of 215.
293 is Planning and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure.

I guess it all depends on which OS you plan on running your DBs on more, as well as which other certs you are going to get.

clean [pirate] types =
don't want dirty [pirate] software touching our PCs, servers, routers... don't know where they've been... don't want to know... ;-)

you can often find the books you need at local "bring and buys" ("flea markets" to you folks in America) and used bookstores for a lot less than retail... here in Texas, we have a chain of sub-$5 bookstores that specialize in overruns and sometimes even get really new ones for very, very cheap...

"older" books like those for mcse 2000 are often $0.99...

OK, I was wrong. The test for 293 was way off from the book. The book covered mabey 10-15% of what was on the test.

I passed, but I'm not sure how.

(5 down, 3 to go)

so 293 is the 216 equivalent? 216 was tough, not like transcender, not close to expectations set by the books I had...

Thank God for the 292/296 upgrade path!!
