Hi Guys,

We and some of our customers already have our MCD, MBG and other Mitel Applications on VMWare, note that we all have everything in our OWN Data Rooms and our OWN Servers, etc.

In our case, we have T/worker sets at home and also SIP clients in our cell phones, etc.

My idea is to move everything outside our premises "maybe to the cloud" and only worry about our Internet Connection in the Office.

I know this is possible as long and we install applications over vmware, and of course we will need a public IP address and firewall to manage access to applications.

The questions is, are there already companies that you can lease/rent "virtual" CPU/RAM/Disc where we can install our own VMWare and then our virtual firewall and virtual Mitel applications?

I would imagine lots of companies, with tones of data centers around the world would be already selling this service, do you have any information about this?

I would appreciate your comments or other Ideas regarding this topic. Please note I am not looking for a data center that can host our phisical service.

Regards,

Daniel

Try Rackspace.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

We have been selling this via our Local ISP in Australia
Basically the Mcd MAS & MBG are 'hosted ' in the ISP's Data Centre and connect to the customers sites via MPLS networks
and the internet via a connection in the Internode data centre. Thus everything is survivable if the site goes down.
- at this stage we have only implemented SIp trunks from the ISP ( no local Physical gateways for ISDn etc.)

We have customers with single sites ( and cloud) and multiple sites & cloud running in this manner.

We had to do some close integration with internode to get this sorted and working but its now a very sellable product.
- They have built virtual server packages tuned to fit the requirements mcd small , mcd enterprise etc
- customer signs up and pays the monthly rental for the hosted server.

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

Hi Daniel,
Here at Spain you could find this kind of services at every T1 carriers, some examples:

Acens: Billing you by resource usage.
Arsys: Billing you on resource reservation.
Colt: One of the best worldwide, but quite expensive.
Uniway: Rent VMware hosting, you can host whatever you want.

If you´re interested, please contact me and I´ll support you on this matters.

VHC

Where are you located?

In principle it should work fine think even Mitel offers hosted service themselves in the USA under something called Mitel Anywhere. Have seen a company in Canada called Maplesoft that is building the type datacenter you are talking about for hosting VMware.. Even seen a post in this forum from somenone that is doing it but running into issues with phone reboots. So all in all I think it is very possible.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

Loopy, hadn't heard of Mitel anywhere before, I will find out. We are located in Europe.

However, if it's a cloud service it wouldn't make much difference, regardless of location....

What I'm tryning to acomplish is a service that we can offer to customers without the need of having hardware on site.

I will have a look at your suggestion Maplesoft.

Thnks a lot, Daniel

Dan , depending upon how you are deploying handsets , I think it will make a difference where the servers are hosted .

If you want handsets onsite running as LAN connected ( not as teleworkers) , make sure that the customer can get decent bandwidth well managed MPLS links to ensure you get good Quality voice.

Most Decent Datacentres will offer a high level of uptime and the servers will be very reliable.

The issues you will have will be SIP Trunk related and related to the Links between the servers and the handsets

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....
