McAfee Virus Scan 4.5.0 with service pack

Running on an NT box --SP6a

This problems happens once every few days, I will have a user call me up with this error message on boot up of their nt box.

Please Start the virus scan console from the start menu.

I checked their Event Log and did not find anything out of the ordinary. I've tried removing all registry keys and re-installing. I thought I fixed this problem, but then a few days later McShield fails to start.

Also, we've had this software awhile and didn't have any problems till recently. I have this installed on every nt box we have here, and they all have this problem, but at different times. I haven't found any pattern to when it will fail..but usually happens on a boot up. And occationally with an autoupdate.

Anyone have a suggestion, because McAfee's support people aren't very helpful and their site is very lacking for a support knowledge database.
 
There's a hotfix roll-up (HFRU) released by NAI to fix some issues on NetShield. I haven't checked the README.TXT file yet so I'm not sure whether your issue has been addressed. You can download the file (NNT450HFRLML.ZIP) from the NAI web site. BTW, you need your grant number to download this.

AVChap ... take my advice, I don't use it anyway!
 
Forgot this. If it's VirusScan, latest version is 4.5.1 w/ SP1. Downloadable from the same place (
