McAfee icon in toolbar must go

version 8.0.17 comes with this redundant/superfluous icon in the toolbar, while the little red square in the taskbar remains the handiest (for me anyway) way to manage Virus Scan. the blue icon and text takes up at least 15% of the available space in the toolbar, and cannot be removed by going to view>toolbars>customize ... how can I get rid of this little space-waster?

If you right click on the blue icon, click "about", it should tell you what program this icon is for. Sounds like its the EPO Agent to me. You can hide this icon (prevent from showing) by NOT checking the "Show Agent tray icon" box in the general options for the EPO Agent in the EPO console.

However, Version 8.0.17, is that the HOME version? If it is then my answer may be moot.

Moot it is ... I am referring to the home version. I wasted an hour chatting with a McAfee "tech" who, in exasperation, advised me to uninstall/reinstall. Of course, that did nothing. I guess I am just stuck with it until enough people complain about it. And, hey ... I was going to procrastinate today, but I put it off till tomorrow ... Thanks for your suggestion though.

I thought 8.0.17 is still in BETA? Might help if you talk to the beta guys about it, rather than a tech.

try removing the registry entry from the HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\RUN folder in the registry, that always works for me as mcafee usally runs as a service on XP/NT/2K
