It seems these days that McAfee Viruscan seems to be going the same way as Netscape did.

Comments anyone?

Apparently what you say is true. Netscape quality went the way of the Dodo when v4.7 came out. VS seems to be similar with scanning engine 4150 and they can't seem to recover with 4160.

Any intelligent organization would have taken a step back to see what they did wrong. Unfortunately, it appears that NAI is in far too deep to pull back.

NAI has laid back on their laurels leaving plenty of room for Symantec to win the race for the better product.

Could it be true that NAI is selling out?
Could it be Microsoft that is buying them out?
Could they just be hoping to cover their flaws?
Does anyone at NAI really care?

Does anyone anywhere really care? :-(

Any intelligent customer focused organization would take a step back to see what it did wrong with 4150. Instead NAI plowed ahead with 4160.

That's because they have far too much forward momentum going on and not enough forward planning.

Netscape is recovering tho'. Can NAI do likewise?

I suspect that you will see a surprise announcement within the new year regarding the sale of the McAfee line of (non-internet based) products. NAI is basing its future on the internet based scanner. However, this is a plan that is doomed to failure for several very obvious reasons.

Who will buy McAfee?
Will it be Microsoft?

Don't give up hope yet but be aware that something big is forthcoming.

You guys are talking about NAI/McAfee going the way of NetScape, like being bought over or something. IIRC, they just announced their Q4 numbers and it was very good, compared to last year's numbers. So i don't see this happening in the near future. But from what my friends in NAI tell me, they're coming up with better technology.

Well one area that they have fallen down and have never gotten up is the area of customer service. I have had nothing but frustration trying to cotnact some via email regarding pres sales questions regardign their products. It is like they do not know what a customer is and could care less. I gave up and purchased a competitor's higher price product. At least their promptly answered any questions that I had
