Hi,
I recently bought Mcafee Personal Firewall and Viruscan Online, downloaded them from their site, and installed them on my Windows 98 system. Soon after I started to have problems connecting to my cable ISP. Actually I couldn't connect at all. I disabled the Mcafee programs, but same problem. I uninstalled both with add/remove programs, but still no go. I contacted my ISP and they told me that they could read my computer momentarily as it booted up, but then they would be cut off. I told them that I had had a Firewall installed, but that it was not installed any longer. They suggested that it was still a Firewall issue and that possibly it wasn't confugured properly with the ISP connection to begin with, and then it wasn't uninstalled properly. They told me to contact Mcafee to see if there were any special instructions for an uninstall, but then Mcafee told me that Add/remove in windows is enough.
Well, the story doesn't end there. After letting my computer sit for awhile, it went into stand by mode. When I brought it back and then tried to connect to the internet, bingo, I was on. And my ISP then said that they could read me.
So this is how it stands now. If I boot up my computer I cannot connect with the Net. But if I let the computer go into stand by mode, and then bring it back with a wiggle of the mouse, I can connect. It is the strangest thing. I'm guessing that I haven't configure the Personal Firewall with my ISP properly, but I have no idea how to do this. I've been suggest to go into Firewall options and then My Server tab and then open up a port, but I don't know which one to open, or why it works after stand by mode.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
