We are currently looking for an appliance based Anti-Spam/Anti-Virus option. The model that has been recommended to us is the McAfee E500. I would like to hear from anyone that has this appliance or one of the other McAfee devices.

Also I would like to hear of any other appliance based solutions.

We have 2 E1000's and I absolutely love them. They have prevented alot of viruses from entering our network. I can't imagine what our network would be without them.

Hi there,

I trailed an e500 device last year. I was not happy with it, mostly because of cost.

I would have preferred McAfee continue to develop the WebShield SMTP product as we already had hardware which was a higher spec than the e500.

Also WebShield SMTP is part of AVD which we had already paid for.
By discontinuing development of WebShield it will eventually become obsolete and be removed from AVD, thereby reducing the level of features.

For a more cost effective solution I recommend you look at Barracuda.

One point to note however, Barracuda is a pure SMTP scanner.
The e500 on the other hand scans HTTP, SMTP and POP3.
