mcafee active sheild

I need some help please!i am running xp celeron 866 512 ram
tnt 32mg video,sb live have virus scan on line and active sheild from mcafee.when i open folders or try to open data cd's my computer comes almost to a stand still.if i open task manager i see a program called mcshield.exe hogging 70-90%of my cpu.it starts at 5k and goes up to 200k slowly then it will drop back to 5k and then my programs will open normally.every time i open some programs or folders it does the same thing.5k up to 200k plus!this takes about 3minutes just to open a folder.the program mcshield.exe is doing all this and slowing me down really bad any suggestions.thanks in advance

Change the settings in Active Shield from scanning all files to just default files. This should help speed things up.

there is only 2 settings i can change.scan all files or scan program and document files only i have tried both and still the same problem.
