MC68LC302 - HDLC to MAC sublayer protocol...

Hi! I'm using Motorola microprocessor MC68LC302 which has 2 serial ports that can implement HDLC protocol (in hardware). Is there any way to write a protocol for MAC sublayer in C language,through the HDLC hardware implementation and how?
