Hii guys,

I have a dual boot system. XP pro on a sata and 2000 a ata. The boot.ini is on the ata...

I can get the boot.ini up in that it gives me an option to pick which opporating system I want to boot. After that it tells me that can not find a bootable drive...

I can see and access the drive when i put it in an external case via USB. All the accounts are there. I can access that info if I change permisions but other than that the drive tests possitive for health.

What can I doo to get this up and running??

That can be accessed too.

can i see the mbr? can i put another one on it? what should i do? I can see the sytem volume on both drive.... I can see windoes on the sata and winnt on the ata....

[boot loader]
timeout=1
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000
Server" /fastdetect

my sata drive has two partitions on it it is labled s 0 in drive manager

my ata drive with the boot.ini and win2000 is listed as 1

So the sata drive is listed as g. how do I get a new mbr on it....

Q: does the W2k install see the SATA drive, or better asked, are the SATA drivers installed on w2k?

Reason: it sounds like the NTLDR on w2k is not SATA aware, and can not load the XP install on that medium...

it would have been better if you had the DUAL BOOT setup running from the SATA drive, let XP's NTLDR handle the DUAL boot as it has the drivers installed and is PATA aware...

Here is an explanation of the BOOT.INI file and the ARC paths...
