Not for the faint of heart...

With a keyboard, mouse and monitor on a NAM, i've managed to change mailbox numbers, but you want to keep the digit length the same as all the other boxes. Right now i can't remember exactly what directory to look in, but it wasnt hard to find. Each mailbox filename was the mailbox extension number.

On used NAM's you can see the DN length of previous installs, and more to the point, when doing a re-install of the NAM on a new KSU, sometimes mailboxes don't get deleted and are left behind to cause problems. The system doesnt see the mailbox file but it won't overwrite it when you try to create a mailbox with the same number.

Not sure this will be helpful for you especially trying something like this on a production machine. I had the luxury of being able to use ghost to make a backup of the disk before trying it.

change the extension #

Marty, I would tend to disagree and say that Norstar is quite user friendly. Try direct connecting to a NAM, dialing in remotely, or over a Network if you desire. I maintain switches with NRU and NAM Remote Access, older SW to current versions without many issues. Quite frankly, they have run themselves. Work horses...

I think Marty is referring to booting up the NAM with a DOS startup disk and modifying the mailbox files in a specific directory.

Deleting the wrong file could make the NAM unusable.

The short answer to the original post is that you cannot change an existing mailbox number.

You can change the DN of the set.
Then change the ext in the mailbox to the new set DN as luv2ski pointed out.
