I just bought a Maxtor One Touch II that didn't come with the retrospect software. I'm not too worried because I was planning to just use other software anyways, but when I try to access it, it says that the drive needs to be reformatted? Should I do it, or is there valuable information already on there?

You should be able to just look inside the drive, from windows, and see if there is anything there. You may have to enable your own windows to see system files ( go to folder options to do this).
Also, you can go to computer management and see if there is more than one partition. Its possible your drive may have been formatted with one very small partition and one larger partition. Im not sure on this, just worth checking into, only takes a few seconds.
But if you find nothing then you can go ahead and reformat it anyway.
