My computer had been working fine when I rebooted yesterday evening. Upon reboot I received the message:
"Primary master drive fails"
and the usual press F1 or Del etc. My PC did detect the drive as Primary Master (no slave) and my other drives (CDRom & Rewriter on 2nd & slave) so I figure something must be working.
I opened up and checked all cables etc, swapped over the power cable etc and tried to reboot but I got the same message.
I connected a different lead from Primary to HDD and rebooted. The first couple of times I did this it got past the first stage, i.e. HDD was detected but then at the next stage there was a boot error.
I inserted the (not so useful) startup disk I created and read through the help file. I ran "scandisk /all" which found no errors although it finished in about 2 seconds so am dubious it scanned the C Drive at all. I then ran the "fdisk" and it came back negative.
I've had the HDD since Nov 02 so it is not old in the slightest....does anyone have any suggestions that might be able to help??
Many thanks
