Maxtor hard drive warranties have increased

I hope its ok to put this thread here. I just figured it might help some people out to know this info.

Also, it might be good to get a bit more info from those people here who are more in the know. For instance, in the article there is a reference to the new 3 yr warranty not applying to retail sales. I wonder if that refers to the practice of being able to buy just the drive, the oem deal, as opposed to the whole retail unit, with box, manual, cdrom, cable, documentation, etc?
I am a bit confused on this. Im not sure which drives would actually qualify. But it is good news to hear that Maxtor seems to be moving back to the 3 yr warranty, if i have read correctly, not sure on that.
I do know that the maxtor drives with 8 mb cache have always maintained the 3 yr warranty.
