Maxtor Hard Drive recognized incorrectly?

My maxtor hard drive suddenly stopped working. So I put it in an external case and it's recongized as a usb mass storage device, but it doesn't work. I used maxblast 4.0 to try to format it, and it says its a 2.1TB hard drive when it's only 120gb. Any ideas how to get it working properly?

Try running powermax diagnostic (available from Maxtor's website) - should tell you its status (suspect its dead/dying, but powermax can fix some issues).

Yeah I tried that; it came up with an error saying there was no disk connected.

then its dead - though its odd that maxblast should see anything if powermax doesn't even think its there.
