Maxtor external 160 gb

I was at compusa today as they had this drive on sale for $160.00 but they were out of it. When I inquired about getting a rain check, they said, the item is being discontinued. Does anyone know of any problems with this hd and that is why it is being discontinued?

I recently lost 120gb maxtor hd and was replacing it with a bigger one but it there are problems with Maxtor, I would like to know.

For some reason or another, I've read in several mags that external hard drives have a much shorter lifespan. I can't remember why, but if I come across that info again, I'll be sure to post it here.
