when i boot up my computer using the maxtor ata 133 controller card i get a non system disk error. the hard dirve is the maxtor 80g with the 8mg buffer. This is driving me nuts. The hard dirve nad and controller card are both brand new.

If this is an XP machine you still need a newer driver than what you have. Try the one on the Maxtor web site, and also as the board is made by Promise, they have a newer driver as well.

While on the Maxtor site also download Maxblast and run non-destructive tests #1 and #2. It is perfectly possible the drive is essentially DOA. I got one this way, and the replacement was defective as well. Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 80 gig, ATA133 drives, running with Maxtor ATA133 PCI board.
