Preparing for new 80 G Maxtor drive. Set as a slave I can see new hard drive and that it is healthy but only 30 G. I created this new 80 as NTFS. This size I suspected as the primary master is FAT. Utilizing the maxtor copy to transfer files and OS, takes over 4 hours! Upon completion, jumper change, I find the new drive continues to try and boot but never does. It appears that file structure is in place? Not sure if there is any related error message as I'm heading over to physically view the machine shortly. I've yet to check the manufactures site and have advised my friend to load OS first, then we'll handle the copy.
Ideas?

pbunyon,
You can use the Maxtor Utility CD to accomplish both tasks
ie: partition and format the new drive and also do the drive to drive copy. Change the boot order to boot from cd-rom and insert the Maxtor Utility CD. You will need to pay close attention as to which drive is source and which is destination.

Thank you, this has been performed but new system does not boot up and still is seen as 30G healthy. I've checked maxtor site and am putting together relevent information before heading over in a couple of hours.

You should check the drive and make sure the drive limit jumper isn't set. This jumper will be located on the back of the drive near the CSM jumper.

We now boot to new drive and OS, hangs at xp splash. Size seen as 32 G maybe mother board related as noted from maxtor's install guide. Will update bios & reload xp to try and get past the hang and size issue to follow.

Had to run a updated patch on motherboard bios for large drive support, upon completion still read as 32 G until jumpers were re-set and a re=boot, now reads as healthy 80 G.
Thank you
