I think this is meant to get around software and some BIOS limitations, but it will not break the 137GB barrier unless your BIOS can.

If it worked in your case, great! That means your BIOS can surpass the 137GB barrier. However, in most cases, you'll need to use a PCI IDE controller card or obtain a BIOS that uses 48-bit addressing.

The problem is that even some BIOS's on some pc's cannot get around it. The limitaion is within the hardware, not the software... ~cdogg

BIOS Limitation wasn't the problem it was Windows XP, you need to have updated drivers for it to recognise beyond 128Gb, I was installing on a Highpoint Raid controller on a ABIT KR7A-RAID and it only saw it as 128Gb so I tried the onboard IDE controller and it still only saw it as 128Gb.

When I tried to format it with XP it would get to 84% and just sit there for hours.

Probably a glitch in XP Pro.

The Maxblast II got round the problem immediately.

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured.

I was just trying to point out that there are 2 main kinds of limitations: hardware (IDE-motherboard) or software (BIOS, Operating System, etc)

In your case, you already had the key around the hardware limitation - Highpoint RAID controller. However, there was another limitation giving you problems - XP. For the XP problem, the MaxBlastII software helped.

I just didn't want others reading this thread to think that this piece of software could bypass hardware limitations...

Just pointing out other possible limitations, the more we point out the more chance others have of finding a solution to their particular problem.

Thanks
