We have buildings that are connected from the pbx to wire blocks and lightning arrestors in each basement. Now they want to hook up a new building about 400 feet away. To run 2008 and 2616 nortel phones, is this too far away for just regular twisted pairs? Our tech mentioned we might need a booster of some sort. Is the true?
 
I don't have the specs at hand, but I wouldn't worry about 400 ft.

For a typical system with 22, 24, or 26 AWG standard twisted-pair cable, the requirements translate to the following allowable loops lengths:

• up to 3000 ft of 22 or 24 AWG cable
• up to 2100 ft of 26 AWG cable

I've seen where most Entrance terminal blocks have protection for analog circuits (CO line, Analog OPX) but require ones specified for use on digital sets.
