Maximum value without grouping?

Just wondering if it is at all possible to not group a field but try to find the maximum of it using Report Studio.

ie.

Dept Name Salary
IT Bob 10,000
Tony 5,000
Sam 6,000
Max 10,000

HR Amanda 10,000
Jill 4,000
Jane 3,000
Max 4,000

I find that since 10,000 was the max of the IT dept, that it won't appear in the max of the HR dept, can anyone help?

maximum(salary for dept)
