I was wondering if anyone knows about any web sites that can help determine the maximum size hard drive my motherboard will support?

I have an HP Pavilion 8565c. It has a pIII 500 in it.

HP should have specs. And maybe the manual.

Been there. Could spend over two hours going through all the articles. Spent a half hour on it and didn't get to far. I know there are certain know limitations for motherboards i.e. for pII type pc's most won't see the full size of a 40 GB drive. Also at some point IDE drives couldn't be over 136 GB. Something like that???

for those limitations try google search "hard drive limitations". But what you'll see there will be the generic stuff, not showing any mods that HP may have made.
Maybe someone will show up here that has already researched it.
or try google with "hp8565c"

Try calling (phoning) HP directly. They have helped me this way with RAM limits
