Maximum Field Size

I am trying to increase the size of a field I have created in Goldmine 5.5 in the fields tab under mailing information.

I need to increase it from 37 chars to 40 chars but for some reason it will not increase the size. I can increase it on the Data Size box but this does not actually increase the amount of chars I can enter. I do a rebuild after this.

What type of field is it? Character, I assume?

Are all the users out of the database? When you do the rebuild, do you get any errors? Have you restarted GoldMine completely, subsequent to the rebuild?

Are you editing the field size in the custom fields area or are you just lengthening the entry width as it's displayed on the screen? Be sure you'r in File|Configure|Custom Fields and expand the field there.
