Hi,

I was checking with google what the max value for maxHeapSize would be and ran into this thread: thread42-788935 (supposed to have a link to it, not sure how this will show up though...).

Anyway, the thread states that the max value is 768MB for Windows 2000.

Now, I will not deny it (nor confirm it), however, I am puzzled.... Why would the limit be less than 2GB (well... 2GB - memory necessary for the JVM)? Additionally, if there is an arbitrary limit, wouldn't be JVM-vendor (version?) specific? Anyone has a link/doc/... that gives the official limit/word?

Thanks,
Loic.

says:

"On Solaris 7 and Solaris 8 SPARC platforms, the upper limit for this value is approximately 4000m minus overhead amounts. On Solaris 2.6 and x86 platforms, the upper limit is approximately 2000m minus overhead amounts. On Linux platforms, the upper limit is approximately 2000m minus overhead amounts."
