Studying for the CCNAV and setting up dial peers. Being from a voice background and living in Oz I put a real dial plan into my 2600XM router which consisted of 327 dial peers. When I came to save it, the memory couldn't accept it! Fortunately I also saved it to my tftp server so I can reload it.

My question is 1 is this normal and 2 am I just pushing the router too hard?

What was the exact error you had when saving it? I've had issues with saving configs on other devices, but the problem wasn't necessarily with the size of the config file.

I am struggling to see the need for 300+ dial peers on a single router. The configuration is stored in nvram which is limited to a certain file size. It has nothing to do with the amount of ram or flash on your router.

I didn't make a note of the error report but it did warn it would overwrite security files at the end of the nvram and then failed to complete.

The 327 dial peers are derived from what I would use in installing a PABX to give the correct dial string length for the australian and international number plans (there should actually be more, I used a number plan that is about 10 years old)! I may be able to trim it down though as the pabx doesn't use wildcards. It was just easier to create it from the data that I had using excel to create all those strings of full stops!
