Max # Repositories in EPO?

Anyone know if ePO has a maximum number of repositories it can handle? We have a very distributed environment and our desktop people want to have a repository in each site (90+). This sounds a little scary to me and would like to see a different approach (such as local shared drives and handle the replication separate from ePO). Any comments/suggestions?
