Max Processes setting

Hi

Is there a limit on the maximum number of processes that can be spawned (from init?) .Any links/description on this would be really appeciated. Is it possible to manually change this setting in some config file ?

Pre 2.4 you had to do a kernel re-compile -->

On 2.4 its possible to do :

# echo 40000 > /proc/sys/kernel/threads-max

It defaults to ((physical ram / 8192) / 2) . For example,

((512mb / 8192) / 2) = 32768 threads
