Max input record length for awk?

My awk script errored out when attemptin to read in a record 20,000 bytes long. Is there a max length for awk? If so, is there a default length that can be bumped up to accomodate my file or do I need to somehow break it up?

You may have a "Limitations" paragraph in your man page:

Anyway you can ask your admin if it's advisable to get the GNU awk.
