I have an Access 2000 database and the max field size for memo data type is 65000 characters I think. I am thinking of switching to MySql.

Does MySql have a data type field that is larger and if so what is the maximum size it can be?

I would like to use a database where I can store achive info and was thinking a MySql field can handle a large amount of data?

TEXT 2^16 = 65,536
MEDIUMTEXT 2^24 = 16,777,216
LONGTEXT 2^32 = 4,294,967,296

big enough for you? :)

I assume those numbers are characters and not kbs?

Also is there big difference between MySql and Access 2000 sql? Currenly I created all my sql in an Access 2000 database and would like to transfer the database to MySql. I dont have any real data in the database yet so the only thing I need to change (if needed) is the sql which is mostly updates, queries and inserts using 2 tables.

there is as much difference between access sql and mysql sql as there is between british english and american english

lots in common, but lots of quirks, too

:)
