Max environment variable length? 1

Does anyone know off the top of their head what the maximum environment variable length is for AIX? (assume ksh if that's necessary).

I've got a strange requirement from my DBAs to create a LIBPATH with a length of nearly 41k and they want to know if it's even possible.

I have spent an hour searching results on google.

I have spent another hour searching forum results on tek-tips.com for "maximum environment variable size", to no avail.

None of the FAQ results for that search are relevant.

Oh, and since I couldn't find any answers to my question, I tested it empirically. My script got up to a 100k in an environment variable before I stopped it.
