MY
I have an older Asus A7V KT133 (Via Apollo KT 133 Chipset) MB with a 750Mhz Thunderbird Processor. I am wanting to upgrade my CPU and was searching to see the Max CPU speed that this MB can support. I'm assuming somewhere in the 1.1-1.8Ghz Range, but I can't seem to find any exact info, as most of the information I found stated up to "550Mhz to 1.1Ghz+".

Any ideas/links?

Thanks

Howdy:

Ergo, it can support a max 1.1mhz processor.. Unless of course they have a BIOS update to increase the CPU support.

I run the same board. I started with a duron 900 and last year I upgraded to a athlonxp1700+ (1467MHZ) so I know it will run that. I did have to flash the bios to the latest version to suppport that processor. Works great. Note that I had to do the flash with the duron in the comp. but the new bios wouldn't run the old duron so it wouldn't boot untill I put the new one in. hope this helps

Hi

Same board and problem.

rockerfellerz Can I ask what FSB your XP1700+ is running at, the board only supports 200FSB and I want to install something faster than the 1.2Duron thats in it now.

I asked a retailer and he said the fastest 200FSB he has is a 1.6 Duron but I would need a 16x multipler on the board to use it.

Thanks

johnodq: The bus is set to 133 ( which gives 266 when doubled ) as is the ram speed. Multiplier is set to 11.
11 x 133.3333 = 1466.666 mhz the system reports that it is running at 1467mhz which is correct for the xp1700+ .
Like I stated in the earlier post, the system would not recognize the xp1700+ properly at first. I put the duron back in and booted up fine. then I found the latest bios update and flashed the bios. It reported that the bios had been flashed succsesfully, and to reboot the computer, so I did. But it would not boot at all! I was somewhat worried at this point, however, after removing the duron and putting in the xp1700+ I rebooted and it then worked fine and everything reported correctly. It's been working fine ever since.
Durons only run a fsb speed of 100 x2 =200 but the a7v133 (with the right proccessor) can have a fsb speed of 133 x2 = 266mhz.
Hope this helps.

Thank RocKeRFelLerZ I am going to try an XP1900+ , I will post the results as soon as possible.

I am most interested in your results, as well. I've gleaned from the newsgroups reports of both 1700+ and 2100+ thoroughbreds running in A7V classics that were not able to run 133 FSB. I think Rockerfellerz must have one of the latest A7Vs to get 133 out of it.
BTW, the multipliers are remapped, adding 8 to the apparent multiplier. Thus a 12 multiplier is remapped by the processor to 20x.
One more thing--I've never seen before a report that the Durons wouldn't run under BIOS 1011 that Rockerfellerz reports. Anyone else had that problem?

Get a 1700+. Set the multiplier to 13. And bam. You got a 2000+ running at 1.6 ghz. I've done it with a KT133 before. But don't raise your bus higher than 133 becuase your memory won't support it.

I agree that it should have run the duron, I don't know why it didn't....
Seems a few people are interested in this so I'll post a Sandra report for my board / cpu :

Thanks for the info, Rockerfellerz. I somehow misread your first description to be an A7V classic, rather than an A7V133. I see, then, that your multiplier is not remapped--you're running 11X133=1463MHz.

Well after all that it DIDN'T work !

No matter how many times I tried I could not get to versions of the board to work with an XP1900+.

One of them wouldn't even work with a 1200 Duron !
(Latest Bios on both of them)

The boards I had were A7V Not A7V133 or anything else just plain old A7V.

Sold them on with 800Mhz Athlons in and bought new boards for the XP1900's.

In this instance I don't have time to be mucking around experimenting on maybes and if's.

Thanks for all the Info people.
