Max 6000 hyperterm help

Maybe you have come across this and know the answer.

I have this Ascend Max 6000 that I am connecting via a straight through DB9 cable (9600-8-N-1)
I see the screen fine but it does not seem to take my keyboard input. I have tried using VT-100, VT-100J and others but it does not seem to do the job.
Any suggestions ?

Instead of using the arrow keys, try using Ctrl-N to scroll down, Ctrl-U to scroll up. Also try Ctrl-L to refresh the screen.

If one of the pins or cables are open that will happen,
it happened to me once.
