Matrix report layout :- Missing data

i have a matrix report which only displays the matrix column fields and none of the cells or matrix rows. The only way to get the cell data to appear in the previewer is to select a cell and press the down key and all the data appears.
I have tried setting the vertical and horizontal elasticity to Expand of just about eveything and moving stuff, and even gone to the extned that i have rebuildt the report from scratch. I think it has something to with layout model but i am at a loss.

Anyone got any ideas as to what could be the problem?

It sounds like you might have a property messed up somewhere
I can think of nothing except check the properties over maybe their is a default selected which shouldn't be.
