Hi all,
We are purchasing a new server and I was hoping I could get some advice on which Windows 2003 server version to go with to take advantage of the hardware (32bit vs 64, SP2 vs R2).
The hardware will be two quad core Xeon processors (E5345) for a total of 8 cores and 4gb of RAM.
First question:
Does 8 cores count as 8 processors in all version of 2003 or will any version of 2003 see that there are really only two processors with 4 cores each?
Second question:
32bit vs 64bit? What works best with this setup?
Third question:
If we can and do go with 2003 64bit, can we still run our 32bit SQL server 2000 on it until we decide to invest in SQL 2005 (etc..)?
Forth question:
Anything I've forgotten to ask.
Thanks for any advice or recommendations.
We're new to 2003 and appreciate the help.
