I'm new to Publisher and may be operating under wrong assumptions. I want to create a set of master pages that I can use (all or a few in any one publication) on any new publication I create. Basically start a blank publication, set the layout as far as page size and orientation and then add pages and assign my previously created master page(s) to pages as I wish. Kind of like the style concept. The styles/master pages reside outside of the particular publication.

So far it looks like I can't do this. I have to create one "master" blank publication that contains all the masters I will ever want to use and then when creating a new publication, open the master containing blank file and then add pages and assign master pages and then save the publication under a different name.

Am I missing something? Can one create master pages like one creates styles in a word processor and then have them available for all documents?

You can create templates in Publisher. SImply do a "save as" publisher template. When you start Publisher up, you can select Templates from the catalogue. Also, when you go to 'New Office Document" the template will be saved in the "General" tab of the Templates dialogue box. Mind you, with the range of Windows and Office versions, it's all got slight variations.

I'm not too sure what you mean about the "set of master pages"...do you mean that they may all be used in the one document? Or do you mean you have a range of themed documents such as a newsletter, poster etc? When you do a Publisher template, you can set all sorts of things, including options for selecing things from the objects toolbox and single click object creation etc.

Is that related to your question?
