We have a server that is set up with 2 drives, one for system files and the other for data.

I have just installed SQL onto the server, The only way I could get it onto the machine and succesfully install SP3A was to do an upgrade (I think there was another application using MSDE).
The only problem is, the databases are stored on the system drive, there did not appear to be an option during the upgrade to relocate the Database files onto my Data Disk.
Is there any way of relocating all the Sytstem Databases (Master, Model etc) onto the Data Disk.

Thanks, but think I've dropped a clanger in the renaming and the service won't re-start, the error comes back - initconfig: Error 123(The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.) opening ' u:\sql data\master.mdf' for configuration information.

I think it may be the space, do you know how i can get back the origional path without having to re-install SQL

Thanks

What was your final solution? Please post it so others can learn from it.

Thanks

The solution worked for everything but the MSDB & Model Databases, I entered the -T3608 Parameter into the Startup parameters, stopped the services, but the detatch DB was still greyed out.

Any more ideas?

Ok, Sorted, Used the Query Anilizer to detach the files, all DB's have been moved to the new location.

More helpful was the article -

This tells you to move the 'Model' DB 1st then the 'msdb' DB. Don't make the mistake I did and try them both together it dosn't work, you can't restart SQL server to re-attach the DB's.

That problem was solved by running 'sqlservr /T3608, Then the query analyzer can be used to re-attach the db's and restart the SQL server.
