i have a ibm thinkpad 600E windows me o/s which is having control issues (plus it is stuck in 16 color mode)

it has an intel 82371ab/eb pci bus master ide controller and two standard ide controllers. the intel is causing a resouce conflict (code 15), and it says to click on the hardware troubleshooter but that is not working.

i have tried deleting all the ide controllers and the computer reinstalled them all upon restart, but the issue remains.

(and as for the 16 color mode, i have tried to set the display to show 256 or 16 bit and nothing happens uppon restart.)

i have also tried to reinstall drivers but the computer refused to acknowlede the new drivers, even when i tried to force it to look for more.

any insight would be most appreciated.

try a google search on the intel part numbers. There was a problem with some OS versions where the OS didn't have a required .inf file for installation. If this is one of the problem devices the intel site has drivers with the required .inf.

I agree with Ed, it sounds like a driver issue. Download the latest drivers and give it a go. Intel has an Inf_installer with setups for all their chipsets.
