Hi,

I am fairly new to Crystal Reports, having used developper 2000 and Reporstmsith previously. I am wondering if what crystal calls a subreport the same as a detail of the master. And if so, can we have multiple subreports and subreports of a subreports. I don't have that functionality in Reportsmith so i am looking at Crystal to do it.

Any input on this would be helpful. Thanks

Guy

While processing a subreport first the master records are executed from database. When they are being printed the subreports are activated and finally all of the data becomes ready. You can send parameters to your subreports and organize them in this way.But it is impossible to use a subreport in a subreport. You have to think different solutions if you need nested subreports.

maybe u can create a report with a subreport and then add this report as the subreport for nested subreports. i cant assure u that the subreport for the subreport will refresh when the main report is refreshed tho'.
i dont remember.
just try it
it should work

You can have nested subreports in this way but if your tables are complicated, the overall performance seems to decrease. But it works :))

Almost always when you are motivated to create a sub-report it is because someone has asked you to combine two or more reports into one or because the data database do not have good linking fields. Crystal cannot link tables on a formula field. However, it can link a report to a subreport through a formula field. Almost always, if you have a large database, it is better to think of another solution than to have many sub-reports.

One good way is to join your tables and extract your records using a stored procedure or some other 'data mart' or data warehouse technique. Howard Hammerman,

What a rip off! Crysta decisions wants $149 for a CBT course to teach you about sub reports. Much better to buy George Peck's book. You can find it on the web for about $39. It comes with a CD-ROM.

That is pricey. There are several places where you could get an hour or more of individual instruction for that amount. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

I am trying to write a filter for "null" values from a Clarify table in order to generate accurate record counts in the report. Has anyone had experience with Clarify 10.0 and Crystal Reports 8.0?

Thanks
