I manage a small domain of 22 XP clients and 2 2003 servers. Everyday when I check my logs I get an error about my domain controller in forcing an election because there is another Master browser on the domain. There is nothing currently wrong with my servers, but this error is annoying. Is there a way to prevent my other server from becoming a master browser?

I tried running the browstat command and I get command not found, I did read in the article about using WINS. Would you advise about using WINS to sole this problem?

No. If all machines are in the same subnet, there is no real need for WINS (based on the environment info you gave).

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

I have not had a master browser in my network for two years....

Windows 2000 and later simply don't need NetBIOS for normal operation. There were some legacy Microsoft applications that required it but these have now all gone I think (or have if you have upgraded them - Exchange Server springs to mind). There are some 3rd party applications that still require NetBIOS but I don't use any and I expect a lot of other networks no longer need it.

In case anyone is wondering. If you disable netbios in the NIC's advanced properties, the error should go away. Thanks for all your help.
