How can I change my server to NOT intermittently force a browser election? I only have one server, primary domain controller, running NT Server 4.0. My clients use Win 95 with NetBEUI and TCP/IP.

The users on my network lose network connectivity due to the server error below.

The Server error message from Event Viewer is "The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer DAN (workstation) that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport Nbf_DC21X41. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced".

Event ID 8003
RdR Error

Can someone please be specific about what I should do so that my server won't go through this election process? Thank you for your help.

See that in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browsers\Parameters the key IsDomainMaster is set to 'TRUE' and MaintainServerList is set to 'Yes'. if not then doit first. since there are no nt member servers or workstations go to system.ini file of 95 workstations and set MaintainServerList to No under network settings. after that go to control panel, right click on file and printing services(after the service has been installed..) where you will find browsermaster option. set that option to 'disabled'. by default it remains as 'automatic'.
hope this helps you. wiedersehn
