I get this error message in my event viewer on a Win 2K server:

'The browser was unable to retrieve a list of servers from the browser master \\SERVERNAME on the network \Device\NetBT_Tcpip. The data is the error code'

(SERVERNAME being the name of the domain controller!)

Anyone shed any light as to what this means, and what I need to do?

Many thanks
Darren

This is not necessary a problem, for example if a browser master just started, it will need ~15 minutes to build the computers list. So if somebody request the list, it is normal to receive no list and trigger the warning.
I would recommend having only 2 computers with the Browser service running per network subnet, usually domain controllers. One will be the master browser and the other the backup.
There is no reason to have the browser service running on all workstations.

In a complete workgroup environment, you may receive the following error message in Event Viewer:

The browser was unable to retrieve a list of domains from the browser master \\server on the network \Device\Nbf_device number. The data is the error code.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the Browser service is attempting to create a list of computers that are on your network. If the service is unable to find a master browser, this error message is displayed in the event log.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
