so I thought I'd teach myself how to create a mask.

pretty cool, you can do lots of fun stuff with this technique.

but I was trying to mask a textfild that I populate from an external text file.

simple right.

but when I create a mask layer. my text dosn't show up in the mask on the graphic background.

is this a limitation of flash.

let me know jef

after playing around with the problem, I think that this is a limitation with Flash.

I can mask a static text field fine....but a dymanic field won't work.

if you know of another way please let me know

Have you tried embedding the font? Check the embed font box in the text options window.

dude...you rock,

never crossed my mind....works great

what does that do to the file size? what does that do???

outstanding jef

Well... You can't win'em all!
But you do get a masked dynamic text box!
That gets my vote!

If you embed the whole font then it adds around 30k to your file size. But you can use the options to embed only numbers, uppercase, lowercase or just the characters you use which cuts things down dramatically.
