Masking a user from my site

Not sure if this would be CGI or not, but if I have a website which has a forum where people can post (like tek-tips) is there a way to some how mask a certain user (either by ip, login name, cookie, etc) to make it look like their posts are actually being posted for everyone to see, when in reality, their computer is the only one who sees their posts. I know this is possible, just not sure how. Any ideas? Anyone want to point me in the right direction? Thanks

The only way you might be able to do it would by by login name.

Cookies can be cleared and IP addresses are often shared.

But even login name lockouts are not deterministic. If the problem user suspects something, he can always create a new identity on your site. Want the best answers? Ask the best questions:

Let's suppose I did want to block by the login name...where an what code would I put in to make it work. If you have any ideas that would be great....thanks again

Let me see.....

Since I have no idea what forum software you're running on what platform with what server, it doesn't really matter what code I give you, because it has exactly as much chance of being right as any random code snippet.

One way you can accomplish this is by making a cookie mandatory. If the user erases your cookie, or the cookie doesn't contain the correct data, redirect them to your "New User" screen and tell them that cookies must be enabled to access your site.

Another way of tricking your restrictions may be through anonymous surfer:

http://anon.handalak.com

But it still cannot help anyone to hijack someon'e username/passwords. It only hides ones identity from the destination server
