We are currently upgrading our server and have found that MAS90 v 3.40 may not be compatible with Server 2003. We currently run Windows NT Server? We get an error from provide X that says "Can't open ACTIVATION key" Activation key could not be found. Is this true and if so what are supposed to run it on?? NT?? With Vista now being out there how long before we can't find server 2003?? any thoughts??

Check your user rights on the ..\mas90\home\lib\keys folder.

Generally this is a permissions problem.

If the rights look ok, try rebooting the server to remove any possible stray locks.

Subject:

"Cannot Open Activation Key File - No Valid Activation Found" occurs when launching Sage MAS 90 or 200.

Possible Resolutions:

Sage MAS 90:

* The user does not have sufficient network permissions to launch Sage MAS 90. To test permissions, perform the following:
1. In Windows Explorer, go to ..\Mas90\Home\Lib\Keys\.
2. Try to create and delete a text (.txt) file in the ..\Keys folder.
3. If an access error occurs, give the user sufficient rights to the entire ..\Mas90\ folder and all subfolders, using the following guidelines:.
o Microsoft networks:
+ Change (RWXD) or "Full Control" permissions at the sharepoint.
o Novell networks:
+ RWCEMF rights to the ..\Mas90\ folder and all subbfolders.
+ RF rights to the root folder.

* ..\Mas90\Home\Lib\Keys\Activate.pvx is read only. This might occur if Sage MAS 90 was restored from a CD-ROM backup. Remove the "read only" type attributes from all Sage MAS 90 files.
o Open a command prompt, go to the ..\Mas90 folder, and type the following command to remove "Read Only", "System", and "Hidden" attributes from the ..\Mas90 folder and all subfolders:
+ ATTRIB -r -s -h /s

* The path to ..\Mas90 is incorrectly mapped. For example, the ..\Mas90\ folder itself might be shared so that the workstation only sees the folders beneath ..\Mas90\ (F:\Home\ instead of F:\Mas90\Home\). To resolve, perform the following:
1. Remove the share from the ..\Mas90\ directory, and share the drive above ..\Mas90\.
2. At the workstation, remap the drive so that it points to the new sharepoint, and the run Workstation Setup (..\Mas90\Wksetup\Setup.exe or Wksetup.exe).

* The server might have insufficient disk space to run the program. Verify that the server has sufficient disk space.

* A virus might be interfering with Sage MAS 90 processes.
o As of 09/20/2001, the following file types have been known to interfere with Sage MAS 90.
+ *.eml
+ *.nws
+ RICH*.DLL
+ MPE*.*
o If any of these types of files exist on the network, the virus must be cleaned from the network before troubleshooting Sage MAS 90 and 200 issues. If Sage MAS 90 is infected by a virus, perform the following:
1. Rename the ..\Mas90\Home\ and ..\MAS90\Cm\ directories.
2. Reinstall the System Setup, Library Master, and Custom Office (if installed) modules.
3. Reactivate the system in Product Registration. It is not necessary to reenter the serial numbers and unlocking keys.
4. To retain configuration settings, such as Device Configurator, copy all *.ini files from the old ..\MAS90\Home\ directory to the new ..\MAS90\Home\ directory.

* The PVX.INI file in the ..\WINNT\ directory of the server contains an absolute path to the ..\MAS90\Home\Lib\ directory that is incorrect. The path to the ..\MAS90\Home\Lib\ directory must be the same as the path in the ..\WINNT\PVX.INI file at the server
o This resolution applies to Sage MAS 200 only under the following circumstances:
+ The splash screen hangs on the workstation and the error occurs on the server.
+ The workstation operating system is Windows NT or Windows 2000.
o To resolve, perform either of the following:
+ On the server, edit ..\Winnt\Pvx.ini and fix the path.
+ Have all users exit Sage MAS 200 and disable Host. On the server, delete ..\Winnt\Pvx.ini, and reinstall System Setup.

* Delete the ..\Windows\PVX.INI file on the local workstation, and then run Workstation Setup.
o This resolution applies only if the error occurs within the program rather than when launching it.

Sage MAS 200:
The user might not have Change permissions to the "local" ..\Mas90\Home\Lib\Keys\ folder (the Workstation Setup folder). Grant all Sage MAS 200 users 'Changel' permissions to the "local" ..\Mas90\ folder on the TS/Citrix server.

If running Terminal Services or Citrix on a Windows NT 4.0 server instead of a Windows 2000 server, this configuration is not supported. Review the Supported Platform Matrix for more information regarding software compatibility.
