Good morning all. The past few days my MAS6000 v6.0 keeps rebooting about every 30 minutes or so. has anyone else had this problem or know what i should do? My dealer of course doesn't answer his phone. I read the log files and i don't understand them. I will post a few but there are too many.

in addition i've also tried switching the boot sequence from mitel UP to SME or whatever the other says. and when it boots up it says something about not being shutdown properly and press Y to run clean up or something and i press it and it runs and does the same thing over and reboots again.

does anyone know if you can make the MAS only a server for teleworker and not an internet gateway because i'm thinking about doing a major reconfig and buying a seperate MS Server 2003 and making that the gateway. but I want to make sure the teleworker will work because it wouldn't work on the linksys DMZ i had setup before. ANY input would be greatly appreciated! I'm being yelled at that their internet is kicking them off every 30 minutes or less.

in the above code u can see where it was running at 9:56am and then at 9:59am it reboots itself. i'm not sure if it properly rebooted or what. then i put a break because there was so much text so if anyone wants to see the whole thing let me know.

I am not sure why the server reboots by itself. from the logs however it logs like your UDP ports are being blocked.

anyway, you can configure the system as a server only but be ware!! The setup is more complicated as you need to have the server behind a firewall with at least 3 interfaces. to date I have not been able to get this working 100%. Usually get one way audio. This is due to the network set up.

rather keep the server in server-gateway mode. try reinstalling the mas 6000 server if you haven't done so yet.

Why don't you just set the MAS6000 up as the office gateway. It can act as a firewall as well, with pass-thru for Window Server 2003 e-mail (sending and receiving). It's a very easy to use package, easy to configure for your situation.

I don't have windows server 2003 yet but I was thinking about getting it. Do you recommend getting it or can the MAS do the same things as it? like file sharing and storage. e-mail server, print server, firewall, virus protection, ability to block certain websites. is there something i get read that will tell me all the options it will do? and if i get win2003 which one should be the gateway?

The MAS6000 runs on LINUX, hence it will run fine on a lot less hardware/horsepower investment than W2K3 server.
There are also a number of excellent freeware and shareware LINUX apps available to accomplish literally anything you want to do; ie, router, gateway, email server, firewall, etc., etc.
However, having said that, I don't believe it would be at all wise or adviseable to blend a multiplicity of unrelated server applications in with your VOICE applications server (the MAS6000).

In my opinion (and Mitel will probably echo this sentiment) the MAS6000 needs to be alone on a separate hardware platform that is used only for the various Mitel voice application blades, i.e., Teleworker, 6042 VPN, Unified Messaging, etc.

If you want to create the other apps on a Linux-based machine, fine, but put them on a separate server.

I used the MAS6000 for:
- email
- router/gateway
- vpn
- unified messaging

Actually and in fact, there isn't a feature/software blade I didn't use. I liked it. The problem was e-mail. It uses IMAP, and if you use the true IMAP standard, it's very difficult, specially if you are coming from a Microsoft world. For example, if you delete a e-mail then you have to purge your email account, and it's all very time consuming and different.

I made the change from MAS6000 to Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 last weekend, and I'm glade I did. Much easier to maintain and configure.

If you install the Exchange, you should use the MAS6000 as the gateway, that way your tele-worker phones will continue to work.

ok thank you all so much for your help. so i can use MAS as the gateway and teleworker server and have a seperate win2003 server. sounds great to me. is there a blade or something that you need to make them work together or do u just configure that in the win2003 server?

There is an option in the MAS6000, on the E-MAIL tab that says "IP Address of E-Mail Server." Once you populate that field the MAS6000 will automatically forward the e-mails that are sent to it, to the Win Ser 2003 w/Exchange.

This is something your dealer should be doing for you.
