We sell item RR20 but include one free unit for every five sold during a seasonal promotion.

I'd like to create an alias item number for the freebie, but want to report that free issue to a Marketing GL account.

Is there a way to set up an alias number that reports to a GL account different than that of the master item.

No. An Alias number is not really a number but a description that can be associated with either a vendor or customer. When you enter in the alias item number the system writes the actual item to the item number field and the alias item number to the alias item number field. The GL accounts from sales and COGS come from the product line associated with the item.

The only way you can do this is to enter the freebie on a separate line and then manually change the GL account number for that one line.

Thanks BigLouie,

That's what I shought on the first part, but it seems there must be an easier way to handle a buy-five-get-one-free promo and track how many freebies you've consumed for the marketing GL. What if I created a freebie item number, kept zero in stock and set up the regualr item as an alternate? Would the product post to the original or alternate assigned GL account?

I'm new to this company and they are currently trying to trick the system by using sales kits. The customer orders five RR20s and we order an additional SAMRR20 that has RR20 in the BOM. Problem is that they are duplicating orders this way (PO lists two line items: 1-SAMRR20 and 1-RR20. This isrendering it impossible to import these transactions via EDI since they are wrong. It has resulted in a manual, time-consuming process that should be eliminated if possible. Any ideas?
